Balaclava Multicultural Mural Festival 2027 Artist Commissions

The City of Port Phillip is commissioning multiple large-scale street-art murals at up to eight sites along Carlisle Street, from Chapel Street through the Balaclava shopping precinct and station area toward Carlisle Avenue, as part of the publicly funded Balaclava Multicultural Mural Festival (1–14 March 2027). The public-art trail should celebrate Balaclava’s established and emerging multicultural communities, histories, contemporary identities and lived experiences; strengthen social cohesion, belonging, inclusion and intercultural understanding; support local businesses and precinct visitation; and create welcoming, vibrant, family-friendly public space. Selected artists participate in Council-facilitated community engagement and develop original, culturally respectful artwork without logos/advertising, offensive imagery, political messaging or antisocial-behaviour content.
