About This Call
Bailey Contemporary Arts Center (BaCA), operated by the City of Pompano Beach's Cultural Affairs Department, is seeking participants for its Artists in Residence Program. Eight studios at BaCA are available to individual artists—visual, performative, and theatrical—for a nine-month period from October 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. The residency cultivates an environment where artists can develop their talents through artistic experimentation and collaboration. BaCA is located in Pompano Beach's Old Town neighborhood and features over 6,000 square feet of exhibition space across two floors, including two kilns available for ceramicists and pottery artists.
Eligibility is open to U.S. artists at least 18 years of age who are not currently enrolled in an academic program. Eligible disciplines include drawing, painting, sculpture, dance, photography, film, video, new media, installation, writing, spoken word/poetry, interdisciplinary work, social practice, ceramics, architecture, and urban design/placemaking. Musical disciplines and theater will be considered, though onsite accommodation may be limited. Media producing toxic fumes or nonstop continuous loud noise are not permitted. The application deadline is March 24, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT, with a $25 application fee. Applicants must submit 5-6 work samples (images, audio, and/or video).
Participants receive 24-hour access to studio space (96-196 square feet) for $250 per month ($2,000 total for 8 months, with no fee in September or June). After completing the full residency, artists receive a 30% reimbursement ($600) of paid participation fees, contingent on studio condition. Additional benefits include one-time feature as "Artist of the Month" with a $500 stipend, exhibition space in BaCA's second-floor gallery, marketing and PR support including website profile and social media promotion, professional development classes, and opportunities to sell artwork at PBCAD events. Art sales through City exhibitions result in a 30/70 commission split (City retains 30%), while sales within resident studios have no commission. A group exhibition and supporting event concludes the residency in June 2026.
