Avon Elementary School Mural Project

The Town of Avon, Colorado requests proposals from mural artists or artist teams to create an original mural for the east-facing exterior stucco wall(s) of Avon Elementary School located on W. Beaver Creek Blvd. This project aims to establish a creative identity and landmark for the west end of Harry A. Nottingham Park, visually connecting the school, sport courts, and western gateway to the park.

The CASE Committee seeks a design with unique and cheerful character representative of education, discovery, learning environments, and/or mountain lifestyle. Themes may address the creative influences of Latino cultural landscape, natural resources (Eagle River, native wildlife, plant/floral life), learning opportunities in natural and built environments, cultural legacy, or historical preservation. The design should not be landscape scenery or demonstratively urban. The wall portion measures approximately 31' 4" tall x 83' wide (2,600.67 sq ft) plus an additional 15' tall x 20' wide section (300 sq ft), totaling approximately 2,900.67 sq ft. The wall contains 20 windows arranged in 5 clusters and stucco control joints that should be considered in the design but not filled.

Selected artist(s) will receive up to $12,000 stipend, all-inclusive of design fees, commercial liability insurance, materials, installation, transportation, lodging, and meals. The Town will clean and prime the site and provide a boom/scissor lift for up to 15 consecutive days. Installation is scheduled for June 17 through July 30, 2024. Applications must include 1-5 images of proposed design, a project statement, and three relevant mural project references with contact information, scope, budget, timeline, location, and 3-8 digital images. All selected artists must execute an Independent Contractor Agreement. Eligibility is open to artists and artist teams residing and working in Colorado, age 18 or older.
