Avenues of Art 2016

The Mayor's Art Council (MAC) implements the Avenues of Art program, which invites artists to exhibit sculptures on main streets in Gillette, Wyoming. Selected artists receive a $500 stipend for loaning their sculptures for one-year exhibitions. Artworks will be displayed outdoors on pedestals provided by MAC and offered for sale to the public. If purchased, MAC receives 25% of the selling price plus an additional $165 for a bronze plaque with the artist's name and artwork title, and future advertising costs. Over the last eleven years, ninety-six sculptures have sold.

The unveiling of selected sculptures is combined with the Annual Donkey Creek Festival, a three-day event featuring art and music. Artists may apply for vendor booths to display additional artwork. All proposed artworks are screened for durability and artistic merit prior to acceptance. Artwork must be durable and appropriate for outdoor display; fragile materials (such as limestone), dangerous, or inappropriate artwork will not be accepted. Artwork must exceed 48 inches. Artists may enter up to two pieces each year.
