About This Call
The Mayor's Art Council (MAC) implemented the Avenues of Art program, in which artists are given the opportunity to exhibit sculptures on main streets in Gillette, Wyoming. Selected artists are paid a $500 stipend for the loan of their sculptures to exhibit for one year, during which time the work will be for sale to the public. The Mayor's Art Council provides a pedestal to secure the artwork. If the artwork is purchased, MAC receives 25% of the selling price, and an additional $165 for the purchase of a bronze plaque with the artist's name and artwork title, and future advertising costs. In the last eleven years, ninety-six sculptures have sold.
The unveiling of selected sculptures is combined with the Annual Donkey Creek Festival, a three-day event of art and music. Artists have the opportunity to apply for a vendor booth to display other artwork. Art supporters and community members are invited to observe the installations and meet the artists.
All proposed artworks are screened to ensure durability and artistic merit prior to acceptance. Artwork must be durable and appropriate for outdoor display. Fragile materials (such as limestone), dangerous, or inappropriate artwork will not be accepted. Artwork 48 inches or less will not be accepted. You may enter up to two pieces each year. Work sample requirements: submit 1-6 images.
