About This Call
The City of Greeley seeks an artist to design and create public artwork for Avens Village playground at Island Grove Park. The budget for artwork design development, fabrication, delivery, and installation is $30,000.
Artists may propose work in two general locations: the area surrounding the playground or within the playground itself (park entryway piece, decorative concrete benches, low fence border, or gazebo pillars). All mediums, including landscape architecture, will be considered if they are resistant to Colorado's extreme weather, follow federal safety standards for playground areas, and withstand wear and tear from playground activities such as climbing, hanging, and jumping.
Submission Requirements: Artists must submit a resume showing previous experience working with project teams, architects, engineers, and managers; experience with manufacture and installation of similar art designs; and letters of reference. A letter of intent describing the expected design approach, materials, and knowledge of the physical setting is required. Up to 6 digital images of completed past work must be submitted (conceptual drawings will not be reviewed), along with an inventory sheet describing each work's title, medium, cost, dimensions, location, and date produced. Applications must be submitted by October 9, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT via Café or postal service to the City of Greeley Cultural Affairs office.
Selection Process: Up to 3 artists will be selected for a second round based on past experience, appropriate work style and materials, and a strong letter of intent. Each finalist receives a $250 honorarium and must be available for a one-hour interview on November 4th between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (in person or via Skype). One final artist will be selected to work with a design team including architects, engineers, project managers, and the Greeley Art Commission. The final design must be completed by February 3, 2016, and fabrication, delivery, and installation must be completed by June 1, 2016. Special consideration will be given to applicants proposing multi-sensory artwork, interactive/play elements, consultation with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or plans to include children and artists with developmental/physical challenges in the creative process.
