About This Call
The City of Aurora is seeking a holistic vision for the Day Room (the old lobby) of the new Aurora Regional Navigation Campus, located at 15550 E. 40th Ave in Aurora. The campus will provide a variety of services for people experiencing homelessness including transitional housing, employment services, workforce development, daytime shelter, emergency shelter, medical clinics, mental health services, medical respite beds, housing navigation, case management and meals. The space was formerly the Crowne Plaza Denver Hotel and Convention Center and will be renovated to meet the new needs of the campus.
The artwork should create a safe space while reflecting the work that takes place within the building. It should represent personal growth and transitions, acknowledge the social struggle for guests while looking to the future and helping people discover their purpose and sense of being. The artwork should also create a welcoming presence and help define the dining area as a safe and respectful space that recognizes the challenges of guests but focuses on what can be done together. The Day Room features multiple wall opportunities, with a center wall space measuring 22' x 20'.
This project is in collaboration with Aurora Housing and Community Services. The public art project budget is $75,000.00, which includes design, project management, overhead, fabrication, transportation, installation, insurance, and any other costs associated with the project. Applicants must submit 8-10 images or videos of relevant work (no conceptual proposals), a professional resume not to exceed two pages, a statement of interest explaining why this project is of interest to you, and a brief bio. The selection panel is looking for an artist who has lived experience with housing insecurity or who has worked with a similar population. Applicants must reside in Colorado. Finalists will be notified the week of November 25, 2024, with virtual presentations scheduled for the week of January 13, 2025. Multi-level approval is expected to be completed by early March 2025, with work ideally completed and installed by Fall 2025.
