About This Call
Aurora Housing Authority and Aurora's Art in Public Places Program are commissioning original artwork for the Liberty View Apartments, a new 59-unit independent senior housing community for veterans and their families at the Fitzsimons campus. The partnership aims to establish a celebratory community space that honors and enhances the lives of veterans.
The artwork will activate the space adjacent to the community garden, encircled by a walking trail. The work should be celebratory and embody an inclusive, colorful, and inviting space for multigenerational friends, families, and communities. It should generate feelings of togetherness and excitement while encouraging residents to create memories with loved ones. This work shall not serve as a memorial. Materials must be durable and appropriate for exterior applications within the Front Range climate of Colorado, which experiences temperatures ranging from sub-zero to more than 100 degrees, snow, hail, wind, and extreme sun.
Budget: $44,000.00 (includes design, fabrication, transportation, installation, and all other project costs). Applicants must submit 6-8 images of relevant work (no conceptual proposals), a professional resume, and a statement of interest. Open only to artists who are legally residing in Colorado. Three finalists will be selected and each will receive a $2,500 honorarium to participate in an optional site visit, develop a formal proposal, and participate in a virtual interview. The selection panel will recommend the selected applicant to the Art in Public Places Commission for approval. Artwork completion and installation is desirable by November 2023 to coincide with a Veterans Day reveal.
