About This Call
The City of Aurora, Colorado invites artists to submit qualifications to create one or more sculptural seats for the East End Arts District, a 16-block area located on East Colfax Avenue between Clinton and Geneva streets and 14th and 16th avenues. The Project Art Selection Panel has selected eight potential sites to place these functional art seating elements.
The Intersection of Art & Function project is part of the ongoing collaboration between the City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program and the Urban Renewal Division utilizing public art as a tool to visually revitalize Aurora's Original Downtown. There are six public artworks currently installed in the District. Funding for this project was made possible by a Community Development Block Grant.
The East End Arts District is located in the heart of Original Downtown Aurora, amid historic buildings and multicultural businesses. The area is home to the Aurora Fox Arts Center, Downtown Aurora Visual Arts, East End Applied Arts, The Other Side Arts, Red Delicious Press, and Sunrise Artworks. Located 5 minutes from the Fitzsimons Medical Campus, Stapleton and Lowry, and 15 minutes from Downtown Denver, the district offers visual and performing arts, ethnic restaurants, retail shops and quality, affordable housing.
Applications must be submitted electronically through CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org. The application deadline is Midnight (MDT) on July 31, 2007. There is no application fee. Eight digital images are required.
