About This Call
The City of Aurora, Colorado seeks existing outdoor sculptures to exhibit throughout the East End Arts District, a 16-block area located on East Colfax Avenue between Clinton and Geneva streets and 14th and 16th avenues. The Exhibit Art Selection Panel has selected five potential sites to display the sculptures. The ideal installation timeline is fall 2007 with a 6–9 month exhibit.
Eligibility and Requirements: Submissions must be 3-dimensional freestanding sculptures of any medium, no larger than 6' tall by 4' wide by 4' deep and no smaller than 2' tall by 2' wide by 2' deep. Water use is not permitted. For public safety reasons, artwork should not have sharp objects or edges. Materials must be durable, require little maintenance, and be graffiti resistant, as the artwork will be outside and exposed to Colorado's changing weather conditions. Artists must transport and install their own artwork; a $500 stipend will be provided. All sculptures must be attached to a steel plate that will be bolted to a concrete base or sidewalk, unless other design considerations are more appropriate. Selected artists must submit a plan (drawing) for the installation of their artwork, including any engineering and other significant factors affecting the extended exhibit.
Compensation and Benefits: Exhibiting artists will be paid a $500 stipend for transportation and installation. The Aurora Art in Public Places Program will purchase one of the exhibited sculptures (up to $25,000), which will be added to the city's public art collection. The exhibited sculptures may be for sale; however, the City will not require a commission on any sales. There is no application fee. Applications must be submitted electronically through CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org by Midnight (MDT) on July 31, 2007.
