About This Call
Aurora is seeking a unique collection of artworks for eight panels situated within the Aurora Municipal Courthouse jury room. The Art Selection Panel is looking for works that address the theme of Justice and Our Community, reflecting the physical context and the work that takes place within the building while representing Aurora's diverse community. The artworks should create a welcoming presence and help define the jury room as a safe and respectful space.
There are 8 panels in the jury room, four on each side, each measuring 57.5" x 46". Each panel could house one single piece or two smaller works. All works should be framed alike to be seen as a cohesive group. Eligible materials include photographs, prints, paintings, fiber works, collage, mixed media, low relief, and mosaic. The artist is responsible for installation. The budget of $10,000 must cover all costs including design, fabrication, all materials, transportation, installation, equipment rental, insurance, and any other project-related expenses.
Applications must include 6-10 images of relevant work (no conceptual proposals), a professional resume not exceeding 2 pages, and a statement of interest addressing your connection to the Aurora community and why the theme resonates with you. This opportunity is open only to artists who live and work in Colorado. The application deadline is November 30, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Finalists will be notified the week of December 11, 2023, with finalist presentations scheduled for the week of February 19, 2024. Approval by the Art in Public Places Commission is expected at their March meeting, with artwork completion and installation desirably occurring in August 2024.
