About This Call
The Aurora Cultural Arts District (ACAD) is accepting applications from artists for its annual Aurora Arts Festival. The theme this year is "Recycle and Upcycle." This festival is perfect for artists and crafters who make art out of recycled materials, as well as more traditional categories. In its fourth year, the Aurora Arts Festival has attracted over 1500 people in past years, and expects to double the attendance in 2014. The fine arts area will be juried by local professional artists and collectors.
The festival will be held in Fletcher Plaza at 9898 E. Colfax Ave. on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 10am to 8pm. The festival will celebrate artists of all genres, including visual artists, performers, poets and musicians. Categories include: Clay, Digital Art, Drawing/Print, Fiber (Basketry or Paper), Fiber (Wearable or Woven), Glass, Jewelry, Mixed Media-2D, Mixed Media-3D, Oil/Acrylic, Photography, Sculpture, Water Media, Wood, Recycled/Upcycled, and Other.
For recycled/upcycled art, all work displayed must be original, at least 75% recycled/re-used, and produced by the exhibitor. Materials must be elements that were originally manufactured and would be thrown away if not for your creativity to reformat them in a manner different from their intended original use. Materials from nature such as rocks, sticks, leaves, bones, dirt, and water are not considered recycled/upcycled. Interior booth spaces at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Municipal Center are $100 for a 10 x 10 foot space. Exterior booth space is $65. Artists must provide their entire display, including tables, chairs, and canopies. Electricity is available for an additional fee. Set up begins at 7am and take down may not happen until 8pm. Submit three JPEG images of your work (1920 pixels maximum on longest side, 72 dpi, under 2MB). Booth fee payment deadline is May 15, 2014. No refunds after May 30, 2014.
