About This Call
The City of Aurora, CO is seeking mural artwork(s) for the interior of the new Aurora Animal Shelter. The murals will enliven the space and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for visitors, staff, and volunteers. Possible locations include the Adoption Lobby, Cat Adoption area, and Dog Adoption Corridor. The murals may also serve as memorable backdrops for adoption moments and photo opportunities.
This is one of three public art opportunities for the Animal Shelter (Interior Aerial Sculpture, Interior Mural(s), and Exterior Project). Artists may apply to one or more opportunities. The City is interested in exploring proposals that may contribute to a holistic artistic vision across the facility. The public art project budget is $60,000.00, which includes design, project management, overhead, fabrication, transportation, installation, insurance, and any other costs associated with the project.
Applications must include 8-10 images or videos of relevant work (no conceptual proposals, renderings, or AI images), a professional resume not to exceed two pages, a statement of interest, and a brief bio. This call is open to artists residing in the United States and its territories. Three finalists will be selected and each will receive a $600 honorarium to participate in an optional site visit, develop a formal proposal, and participate in a virtual interview. The selection panel will recommend the selected applicant to the Art in Public Places Commission for approval, followed by a multi-level approval process culminating with City Council. The work is desirable to be completed and installed by Q4 2026 – Q2 2027.
