Auraria Higher Education Campus Science Building Addition and Renovation - Artist Commission

The Colorado Council on the Arts, Art in Public Places Program and Auraria Campus of Higher Education seek to commission an artist or artist team for the Science Building Addition and Renovation. The Science Building includes classrooms and labs for biology and chemistry, research labs, faculty offices and a greenhouse. It will also house the math and computer science programs. The building will include a glass box entrance and atrium, glass and brick exterior, a courtyard and gathering spaces on the interior and exterior. The building's prominent location faces Speer Boulevard and downtown Denver at the confluence of the Platte River and Cherry Creek. The artwork should encompass science, culture and humanity.

The total art budget is $550,000. The Selection Panel is looking for an artist with the skills and experience commensurate with the responsibility of successfully completing a major public artwork with a budget of over $100,000. This call is open to Colorado, U.S. and international artists. The architects are working to certify this building as LEED Gold.
