About This Call
The Greater Augusta Arts Council is seeking ten (10) leasable, pre-existing outdoor sculptures for a two-year temporary installation in Downtown Augusta, Georgia. All ten sculpture sites will have a 4'x4' concrete base and are fully accessible, spaced to promote walking from one sculpture to another and create a trail experience.
Sculptures must be original, pre-existing artworks in any media suitable for outdoor public space. Each work must be secured to a 4' W x 4' D x 4" H concrete pad, be clearly visible from 50 feet away, be structurally sound and capable of withstanding Augusta's weather conditions (hot summers, cold winters, humidity, heavy rain, wind, thunderstorms, and occasional snow), and be suitable for pedestrian interaction with low exposure to injury. Works must be available from January 2025 installation through December 2026 de-installation. Selected artists will receive a $3,000 stipend for the 24-month lease ($1,500 upon installation, $1,500 upon de-installation). Artists are responsible for transportation to and from the site. A professional sculpture installation expert will handle installation and de-installation. The Greater Augusta Arts Council will heavily promote the trail through online, printed, radio, and TV advertising, create a digital walking tour, and promote sculptures for purchase. At the conclusion of the exhibition, the Greater Augusta Arts Council will recommend works for purchase by the City of Augusta's permanent public art collection. Selected artists must provide a $1 million liability insurance policy with the City of Augusta and Greater Augusta Arts Council named as Additional Insured prior to installation. All selected sculptures will be insured for liability and physical damage by the City during the loan period.
Eligibility: Open to all artists, preferably professional sculptors, at least 18 years of age and residing in the United States. Greater Augusta Arts Council employees and Public Art Advisory Panel members are not eligible. Artists may apply up to 5 times with separate sculptures (one sculpture per application). Installation dates: January 9-13, 2025. De-installation dates: December 9-13, 2026. Selected artists will be notified October 30, 2024.
