About This Call
The Greater Augusta Arts Council is seeking ten (10) leasable, pre-existing outdoor sculptures for a two-year temporary installation in Downtown Augusta, Georgia. This is part of a larger Public Art Master Plan intended to create a walkable and promotable art trail to attract local and regional visitors to the Downtown Augusta area.
All ten sculpture sites will have a 4'x4' concrete base and are fully accessible. Sites are spaced to promote walking from one sculpture to another. All works will be heavily promoted as an arts destination attraction through online, printed, radio, and TV advertising. A digital walking tour will be created and artists will be requested to submit content for the online platform. Selected artists will receive a $3,000 stipend for the 2-year lease ($1,500 upon installation, $1,500 upon de-installation). At the end of the installation, the City of Augusta will purchase artwork for its permanent public art collection.
Eligibility: Open to all artists, preferably professional sculptors, at least 18 years of age and residing in the United States. Greater Augusta Arts Council employees and Public Art Advisory Panel members are not eligible. Artists may apply up to 5 times with separate sculptures (one sculpture per application). Sculptures must be original, pre-existing works in any media suitable for outdoor public space. Each work must be securable to a 4'W x 4'D x 4"H concrete pad, clearly visible from 50 feet away, structurally sound to withstand Augusta's weather conditions (hot summers, cold winters, humidity, heavy rain, wind, thunderstorms, and occasional snow), and suitable for pedestrian interaction with low injury exposure. No pointy, sharp, or easily climbable parts are permitted. Installation: January 9-13, 2023. De-installation: December 9-13, 2024. Selected artists will be notified October 30, 2022. Artists are responsible for transportation and are encouraged to oversee installation and de-installation. Professional installation experts will handle the actual installation and de-installation. All selected sculptures will be insured for liability and physical damage by the City of Augusta during the loan period. Artists must provide a $1 million liability insurance policy naming the City of Augusta and Greater Augusta Arts Council as Additional Insured prior to installation. For any sales during or within six months after the exhibition, artists pay the Greater Augusta Arts Council a 20% fee.
