About This Call
Main Street Productions will hold auditions for THE SECRET GARDEN: The Musical on March 22 and March 23, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at The Basile Westfield Playhouse (220 N. Union St., Westfield, IN 46074). Callbacks are scheduled for March 25, 2026. To access the audition form and rehearsal calendar, visit westfieldplayhouse.org/auditions-2.
Frances Hodgson Burnett's beloved Victorian classic, THE SECRET GARDEN, blossoms anew in this enchanting musical by Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon. When young Mary Lennox loses her parents to a cholera outbreak in India, she is sent to live with her uncle, hermit Archibald Craven, who lives in an imposing, secluded manor on the British heath. Mary discovers her Aunt Lily's hidden garden, locked shut and overgrown with vines, and is determined to revive the beauty that it once was. Surrounded by spirits from the past, determined Mary begins to peel away the layers of sadness that cover the house and the garden.
Auditioners should prepare a 16-bar vocal audition piece (no longer than one minute) and bring a track, as an accompanist will not be provided. Callbacks will include reading from the script for principal roles and a basic waltz. The production is seeking 5 women, 5 men, and 10 dreamers (women and men). All characters require a standard proper British accent unless otherwise specified. Character roles include Mary Lennox (female, age 10, soprano), Archibald Craven (male, 30–45, baritone), Colin Craven (male, age 10, young voice), Dickon (male, 14–25, tenor with Yorkshire accent), Martha (female, 18–30, mezzo-soprano belt with Yorkshire accent), and others. Dreamers are a ghostly chorus of spirits from Mary's past in India who act as narrators and represent themes of memory, grief, and hope.
