About This Call
Atmospheric Perspective refers to the effect the atmosphere has on the appearance of an object as it recedes into the distance. As the distance between an object and a viewer increases, the contrast and detail decrease and colors of the object become less saturated or hazy, often taking on a bluish tint. As historical painters sought to achieve realistic landscape paintings, learning how to render these atmospheric conditions to create the illusion of depth became an important skill.
In our contemporary artistic moment, illusion, depth and distance are still active forces as we navigate the world. This exhibition will contemplate various interpretations of an "atmospheric perspective," including traditional landscape renderings, work about climate change, environmental justice, land rights, cellular and satellite waves that invisibly fly through the air that we breath, various socio-political atmospheres, and everything in-between.
Submissions must include an artist statement that responds specifically to the call. Any 2-D or 3-D work will be considered. Entry fee is $30.00 plus a $5.00 media fee. Submit 1-10 images. Notification of acceptance: August 1st. Artwork delivery date: Monday August 29th. Exhibition dates: September 12 - November 6th. Everyone is eligible.
