About This Call

Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) is seeking artist proposals for its Public Art Project, with projects to be realized in October 2013. Since 1998, ACP has supported Atlanta's emergence as an international center for photography through an annual October festival and year-round programs. The ACP Public Art program features temporary projects in diverse locations throughout Atlanta, reaching beyond traditional art venues and expanding how audiences perceive photography and lens-based media.

Any artist or team may apply, provided that those responsible for fabrication and construction have previous experience in the proposed medium(s). There is no entry fee. Projects must involve lens-based or photographic media as an integral part, including images and/or video captured by a lens, media in which light sensitivity is a primary element, or reimagining the uses of photography. Projects relying on complex or untested technologies are discouraged. A budget of $9,500 has been allocated, covering all costs including design, construction, transportation, delivery, site preparation, lighting, insurance, installation, and de-installation. If the proposed budget exceeds $9,500, the application must detail how the overage will be funded.

Applicants may propose sites but are responsible for obtaining permission from proper authorities. ACP can assist in securing appropriate sites if needed. Projects should begin in late September/early October 2013 and remain on exhibition throughout October, with removal planned for early November 2013. Applications must be submitted via CallForEntry.org by midnight MST on January 21, 2013. Required materials include contact information, a concept statement (not exceeding 400 words) with technical details and project schedule, a one-page budget, current resume(s), and up to 6 work samples (jpegs, audio, and video files allowed). Selection criteria include artistic merit, adherence to media guidelines, feasibility of construction, public safety, resistance to vandalism and maintenance requirements, realistic budgeting, and audience experience. Artists will be notified of jury selection by early to mid-February 2013.
