About This Call
The American Tapestry Alliance (ATA) invites members to submit handwoven tapestries exploring the theme "Tiny But Mighty," which aims to showcase the visual and textural richness of tapestry. ATA encourages submissions of tapestries that demonstrate woven structures beyond plain weave (such as twill, basket weave) and/or the inclusion of knots (such as raya, half hitch, or double half hitch), as well as exploration of materials including found objects, non-traditional, or non-fiber related materials. Tapestries may also incorporate other techniques such as embroidery or thread manipulation.
This biannual exhibit for ATA members is held in conjunction with Handweavers Guilds of America's Convergence 2022 in Knoxville, TN. The members exhibit is not juried and showcases 200+ handwoven tapestries from members across the USA and international members. Artists may submit works individually or as part of a group, with only one entry per artist. Membership in ATA is required to submit.
Tapestries must be no longer than 10" in any direction and no smaller than 2" in any direction. Any 3-dimensional aspects may not be deeper than 2" and must sustain wall mounting. Tapestries will be mounted to white foam board by the exhibit committee; no twill tape, sleeves, frames, boards, or other mounting supports are needed or allowed. 3-dimensional works are not accepted. Each tapestry must have an ID label sewn to the back bottom with title, artist name, dimensions, materials, price, and a directional arrow indicating the top. Tapestries ship to The Emporium Gallery June 20-24, 2022. Exhibit dates are July 1-29, 2022, with a reception on July 1. Return of tapestries begins August 1, 2022. Entry fee is $45.00. International artists must use UPS, FedEx, or USPS and provide appropriate documentation for duty-free entry; any customs fines are the artist's responsibility.
