About This Call

The Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science is organizing a multi-disciplinary exhibition celebrating Indiana's bicentennial anniversary. The exhibition runs July 24 – November 27, 2016, and explores the city's relationship with the Ohio River through three major themes: Settling on the River, Harnessing the River, and Living with the River. Historical artifacts, hands-on science components, and works of art will demonstrate these concepts, with the exhibition concluding by examining future impacts on the river and its residents.

Artists residing in states that touch the Ohio River (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania) are invited to submit original work completed within the last three years that interprets at least one of the exhibition themes. All work must relate to the Ohio River. The competition is open for painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Entries must not exceed 96 inches in any direction and/or 150 pounds; large sculpture should be weatherproofed for outdoor display. No entry requiring the artist's presence for moving or assembly will be accepted.

The entry fee is $40.00 and entitles entrants to submit up to two works of art. Individuals are limited to two entries per person. Over $10,000 in purchase and merit awards will be presented at the September 1 Award Reception. Purchase award-winning works become part of the Museum's permanent collection. One purchase award is available for an emerging artist (35 years of age or younger). Accepted works will be insured while on the Museum's premises at a value agreeable to both artist and Museum, with a maximum insurance value of $1,500.00. Works selected for exhibition must be received June 14 – 24, 2016. Exhibited work may be claimed December 6 – 17, 2016. The Museum does not take commissions on sales; purchasers make checks payable directly to artists.
