Assistance League of Houston Celebrates Texas Art 2009

Juror: Shelley Langdale, Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings at Philadelphia Museum of Art.

All entries must be original works by artists residing in Texas, completed in the last two years, and done without supervision. No entries that have been in previous competitive exhibitions are eligible. All entries must be suitable for a public, corporate setting; nudity, sexual suggestion, and graphic violence cannot be exhibited. Entries may be any medium, including painting, photography, sculpture, and works on paper. Works must be no larger than 144" wide by 84" tall. Sculpture must be no larger than 5'x5' at the base and no more than 10' high. Do not submit works that hang from the ceiling, are secured by large bolts, or weigh more than 100 pounds.

Each artist is limited to four entries. Entry fee is $12 per entry (one entry $12, four entries $48), due by November 21, 2008, payable by credit card through the Café website. Cash awards: $5,000 First Place (Compass Bank Award), $2,500 Second Place, $1,250 Third Place. The juror will make preliminary selections from entries, with final selections made from actual works. Timeline: Notification of acceptance January 16, 2009; deliver work by March 7, 2009; opening and award presentation March 12, 2009; public exhibition ends April 17, 2009; pick up work by April 18, 2009. All works must be shipped in reusable containers and delivered by hand or commercial carrier. Assistance League of Houston will not be responsible for damage, loss, or deterioration in transit. Williams Tower Gallery will insure works while in the building until April 18, 2009.
