About This Call
The Cumberland Furniture Guild, a regional not-for-profit association of studio furniture makers, collectors, and enthusiasts, will hold a juried exhibition entitled "Assembly" as part of the Flying Solo series at the Nashville International Airport. The exhibit will be on display at the greeter area just outside of security from airport concourses A & B. The display case is 18' long x 3' wide x 6' tall, and priority will be given to pieces appropriate to the display potential of the case.
The Guild is seeking submissions of recent original or period reproduction furniture and furniture-related decorative arts of any style that display fine craftsmanship. At submission, all works must be complete and ready for exhibition. Works must be created by the maker whose name appears on the entry form; if there are other contributors, they must be acknowledged in the application. The use of CNCs and Lasers is welcomed but must facilitate an original creation and be noted in the application. Exhibitors must be members of the Cumberland Furniture Guild; however, the $70 entry fee includes a one-year Guild membership. For Guild Regular members in good standing, the application fee is $35. For Guild Supporting members in good standing, the fee is $0. Each applicant may submit up to two pieces with up to three digital images per entry.
Key dates include: Submission Deadline July 8, 2019; Acceptance Notifications July 22, 2019; Delivery of Pieces August 27, 2019; Opening of Show September 2, 2019; Closing of Show December 1, 2019; Pickup of Pieces December 4, 2019. All work must be hand delivered and picked up at the Nashville International Airport. Works may be offered for sale; any works which sell through the exhibit or during a 30-day period after closing will be subject to a 25% commission to Arts at the Airport. The insurance value for each piece must be identified in the application. All work will be judged based on submitted images without identification of the maker. Consideration will be given to the submitted work's connection to Tennessee. Due to space limitations, certain works juried into this exhibition may not be included in the display; these works will automatically be juried into the Cumberland Furniture Guild Exhibition in fall 2020 at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, Tennessee, or the entry fee will be waived for that show on one piece, or the entry fee refunded.
