About This Call
The Aspen Art Museum invites local artists working in any medium to apply for the 2018–19 Aspen Art Museum Artist Fellowship. Up to four artists will be selected to participate in this 9-month mentored professional development program running from September 2018 through May 2019.
Artist fellows meet once a month for opportunities including exchanges with visiting artists and curators, presentations from AAM staff, and studio visits with the fellowship group. Participants will have the opportunity to create a project in collaboration with museum staff which reflects their experience of learning from the museum and the fellowship. Recipients receive a $1,000 honorarium.
Eligibility: Applicants must have lived within a 100-mile radius of the AAM for at least one year prior to the application deadline. Artists working in any medium are eligible. Applicants should not be currently enrolled in a degree program at an institution of higher learning for the duration of the fellowship. Both established and emerging artists are welcome to apply. Applicants must show the ability to work independently and participate fully in the collaborative nature of the fellowship, and must demonstrate that the fellowship would advance their work to the next level. There is no application fee. Notification of acceptance will be the week of September 24, 2018. Work created during the fellowship remains the property of the artist. The AAM retains the rights to document all components of the fellowship, including the project presentation. Artist fellows must commit to participate in monthly group meetings and are expected to attend other museum programming as much as their schedule allows. At the conclusion of the program, artist fellows are expected to complete a final evaluation.
