About This Call
ASLD's BIPOC Artist-in-Residence (BIPOC AiR) program is a new facet of the Visiting Artist Series, designed to foster equity and support diversity in the arts community. The program hosts a Visiting Artist who identifies as Black, Indigenous, and/or person of color for a 6-9 month residency beginning September 1, 2022.
Residents receive a dedicated 900 sq ft studio at ASLD equipped with materials appropriate to their practice, a monthly stipend to cover housing and living expenses, and the opportunity to lead workshops, lectures, and community engagement programs. The residency culminates with a solo exhibition of work created during the residency. Each residency is tailored to the artist's expertise and discipline, with selected artists leading workshops specific to themes and issues important to BIPOC communities.
Applicants must submit 5-10 work sample images in JPEG format (300 DPI, 1920 x 1920), along with basic information, artist background and statement, and responses to questions about how they will use the residency to grow their practice, their commitment to JEDIA (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility), and their connection with BIPOC communities. The program is open to national and international artists 21+ years of age from any visual arts media, with priority given to artists from outside the Denver metro area. Entry fee is $40.
