About This Call
The City of Blue Springs Parks & Recreation Department seeks professional and emerging artists over the age of eighteen to submit proposals for a commissioned public art sculpture. The sculpture will be site-specific to the Fieldhouse circular drive and should relate to the theme "Ascending" while depicting the mission and amenities of the Parks & Recreation Department.
The artwork will be installed on a pad area approximately 12 feet in diameter located in the roundabout drive directly in front of the Fieldhouse main entrance. The pad area has electricity available for lighting or interactive elements. Materials may include bronze, stone, metal, ceramic, or other suitable exterior materials. Kinetic, solar, neon, or interactive artworks are encouraged. The sculpture must be durable, require minimal maintenance, and be designed to not interfere with delivery trucks using the circular driveway.
Applications must include a statement of interest, current resume, 4-6 jpeg images of your body of work, and optionally one video file. The selection process involves jury review of artistic quality and experience, followed by telephone or video interviews with three finalists, and on-site presentations. The City will provide travel and hotel accommodations for finalist site visits. The selected artist will receive a $25,000 honorarium covering all costs including design, materials, fabrication, transportation, and installation. Payment will be made one-third upon commission award and the remainder as arranged by contract. The winning artist will be invited to attend a dedication event in Spring 2021.
