Arvada Post Office Mural

The City of Arvada's Arts & Culture Commission is seeking qualifications from visual artists currently living in Colorado to design and paint a mural on a city-owned site near Arvada's City Hall. The site is located on a pathway leading to the city's central post office off Ralston Road and provides access to Arvada's parks and trails systems.

The site consists of two street-adjacent walls meeting at a corner junction. The East wall has 1,350 square feet and the North wall has 896 square feet, for a total of 2,246 square feet. A majority section of the North wall is covered by bushes set 5 feet from the wall and should be painted with solid color(s) as it is obscured most of the year and does not need detailed design. The mural project is open to various 2-dimensional concepts including representational and non-representational imagery.

The selected artist(s) will be awarded a contract of $27,000 for all phases of the project, including design, materials, installation labor, travel, per diem, documentation, equipment rental, and other related costs. The Arvada Arts & Culture Commission will review and select up to 5 finalists based on resumes and previous work examples. Finalists will complete full proposals for the mural site. Non-selected finalists will receive an honorarium of $250. Artists must use high-quality materials designed for durability in outdoor settings and low maintenance. The project must be completed by October 15, 2022. Artists agree to participate in press and media opportunities as needed and will be available for repair consultation after completion, though they are not responsible for general maintenance.

Applicants must be 18 years or older and hold a current Colorado home or studio address. Submit artist statement, resume/CV, and three to five examples of relevant projects through CallforEntry.org. Questions may be submitted by July 27, 2022. Finalists will be selected by August 8, 2022, with finalist designs due August 22, 2022 and final selection by August 31, 2022.
