About This Call
The Arvada Arts & Culture Commission is seeking qualifications from visual artists currently living in Colorado to design a large-scale art installation using bicycle imagery and motifs along a chain link fence at an outdoor bike safety training complex. The bike safety training complex is located directly across from the Arvada Costco at 52nd and Wadsworth in Arvada, Colorado, and is used to teach bike safety to children and encourage bike exploration of Arvada's paths, trails, parks, and streets.
The installation site consists of up to 220 linear feet of 8' chain link fence. The installation must attach to the chain link fence and be visually interesting to viewers from the street and from within the bike safety training complex. The artwork should be dynamic, promote bicycle safety, be child-friendly, and use materials of the highest quality designed for durability and low maintenance in an outdoor environment. Anti-graffiti and UV protective coating/sealant must be applied as needed based on materials.
The Arvada Arts & Culture Commission will review and select up to 4 finalists based on resumes and previous work examples. Finalists will be asked to complete a full proposal for their concept. Finalists not awarded the commission will receive an honorarium of $250 for completion of the full proposals. The selected artist will be awarded $10,000 from the City of Arvada to complete the project. This budget is inclusive of all costs associated with the installation, including materials, artist design fee, installation labor, travel, per diem expenses, project documentation, equipment rental, and any other costs related to the creation of the fence activation. Applicants must be 18 years or older and have a current Colorado home or studio address to be eligible.
