About This Call

ArtWorks is hiring a Civic Artist-in-Residence to lead its first year-round Civic Artist Studio, which will support the New Monuments Initiative. This is a part-time exempt position (25 hours/week) with a salary of $25,000, based at ArtWorks Administrative Office, 2460 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45206. The position starts October 3, 2022, and runs for thirteen months.

The Civic Artist-in-Residence will lead Phase I of the New Monuments Initiative, which focuses on engagement, research, and inventory. The initiative aims to reimagine and rebuild commemorative spaces that celebrate and affirm the historical contributions of diverse communities. The Civic Artist-in-Residence will work with Junior Civic Artists (ages 18-24) to conceptualize, design, and produce community engagement activities, activate public spaces, and create works of art. Key responsibilities include designing and leading community engagement sessions around monuments, collecting and curating data for a Cincinnati monument audit, leading art creation informed by community engagement, managing the studio, developing team workflows, and mentoring Junior Civic Artists in community engagement, design, production, creative problem-solving, and interpersonal communication.

Required qualifications include a BFA or equivalent experience, 5+ years leading and managing community-driven public art projects from start to completion, experience leading and mentoring diverse teams, and curriculum development experience. Desired skills include proficiency in digital design software (Illustrator, Photoshop, Coral Paint, Procreate), strong written and verbal communication, and core competencies in relationship building, collaboration, diversity, and creativity. Applicants must be willing to work outside normal business hours when needed. To apply, submit a cover letter, resume, 10 portfolio samples (including large-scale and community-based projects), and references via the Paylocity recruiting portal. Combine all portfolio images into one PDF document no larger than 4MB.
