ArtSS in the Open 2021 - Public Outdoor Sculpture Competition

ArtSS in the Open 2021 is a public outdoor sculpture competition sponsored by the City of Sandy Springs in partnership with Art Sandy Springs. The competition is open to local, regional, and national artists. Nine sculptures will be selected for prominent display around the four-acre City Green in the City Springs complex in September 2021. This is a temporary annual exhibition, with new installations placed each year. The city will purchase one or more sculptures from each competition for permanent placement in public locations around Sandy Springs.

Selected artists will receive a $1,500 honorarium for each sculpture selected for exhibition. If a sculpture is purchased by the city, the honorarium will be applied to the purchase price. All sculptures will be on display in the City Green and will be promoted for sale to the public. A public unveiling celebration and gala artist reception will be held in September 2021. Artists whose work is selected acknowledge that the City of Sandy Springs, Visit Sandy Springs, Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, and Art Sandy Springs may use photographs and videos of the artwork to promote the city's public arts program.

Artists may submit up to three individual sculptures. All submissions must be made electronically and should include a full description, minimum three photo images (front, side, and back views), up to two videos, an artist's statement, and artist bio. There is no entry fee. All artwork must be existing works completed prior to submission, suitable for outdoor public display, safe for an active pedestrian environment, and appropriate for viewers of all ages. Artwork must require minimal maintenance, withstand weather and pedestrian contact, and be fabricated with non-hazardous materials. Artists are responsible for delivering, installing, and removing their sculpture. Artwork cannot be shipped. Sculpture installation is scheduled for August 16-20, 2021.
