About This Call
ArtSS in the Open 2020 is a public outdoor sculpture competition sponsored by the City of Sandy Springs in partnership with Art Sandy Springs. Nine sculptures will be prominently displayed around the four-acre City Green in the City Springs complex from April 2020 through March 2021. This is a temporary annual exhibition; the city will purchase one or more sculptures from each competition for permanent placement in public locations around Sandy Springs.
Eligibility is open to local, regional, and national artists. There is no entry fee. Artists may submit up to three individual sculptures. All submissions must be made electronically through CaFE.org and should include a full description of the artwork with a minimum of three photo images (front, side, and back views), up to two videos, an artist's statement, and artist bio. All entries must be existing works completed prior to submission. Artwork shall be suitable for outdoor public display, of high artistic quality, safe for an active pedestrian environment, and appropriate for viewers of all ages. Artwork must require only minimal maintenance and be able to withstand weather, vandalism, and pedestrian contact. All sculptures must be undamaged, unblemished, and fabricated with non-hazardous materials.
Selected artists will receive a $1,500 honorarium for each piece selected for exhibition. If a sculpture is purchased, the honorarium will be applied toward the purchase price. Sculptures will be on display in the City Green and promoted through multiple city websites, social media, marketing materials, and a full-color brochure distributed at visitor information centers. A grand opening and gala artist reception will be held on April 24, 2020, with a public unveiling event on May 15, 2020. Sculpture installation is scheduled for May 1-8, 2020. Artists are responsible for delivering and overseeing installation of their sculpture and must be present for removal at the end of the exhibition. Artwork cannot be shipped due to lack of storage space and staff.
