About This Call
ArtSS in the Open is a public sculpture competition created to bring art to the parks and public spaces in the City of Sandy Springs and to enhance the City Springs complex. Nine sculptures will be prominently displayed around the 4-acre City Green in April 2019 for the first annual exhibit. The City will purchase one or more sculptures from the competition to add to its growing public art collection.
Work Sample Requirements: Submit 2-3 images, 0-2 audio files, and 0-2 video files (2-7 total samples). The theme for this year's competition is "Inspired. By Nature." Works submitted can be inspired by anything from the natural world or the urban environment. Artwork shall be undamaged and unblemished, fabricated and finished with non-hazardous materials. All artwork must be structurally able to be secured to a concrete pad with anchor bolts.
Benefits include a $1,500 honorarium per sculpture selected for exhibition. Sculptures will be displayed in the 4-acre City Green in the heart of the City Springs Complex. The City will purchase one or more sculptures for permanent installation. All art is for sale and will be promoted as such. A featured grand opening will be held on April 27, 2019 with gala artist reception events. Artists will be featured on the City of Sandy Springs, Sandy Springs Hospitality and Tourism, and Art Sandy Springs websites, with links to each artist's website. Selected sculptures and artists will be showcased on the Otocast app and promoted through social media, e-newsletters, printed brochures, and visitor information centers. Artists are responsible for delivering and overseeing installation of their sculpture in April 2019 and must be present for removal at the end of the exhibition in March 2020. Artwork cannot be shipped. If a sculpture sells during the exhibition, a 20% commission is paid to Art Sandy Springs.
