Artspace Artists Association Professional Membership Spring 2013

Artspace Artists Association membership provides participation in hall exhibitions, opportunities for solo exhibits in the Artspace Lobby, opportunities for solo or two-person shows in the Upfront Gallery, and the opportunity to be selected for AAA-only group exhibitions in Gallery One (one annual juried exhibition and one biennial three-person exhibition). Members have sales opportunities through exhibitions and the Artspace gift shop (30% commission taken). Members may also participate in the leadership and direction of the Association through committees, officer positions, or the Board of Directors of Artspace, Inc. AAA members may rent studio space in the Artspace building as space becomes available and requirements can be met, with no commission charged on studio sales.

Artspace Artists Association annual membership dues are $80, which include individual membership to Artspace, Inc. Benefits include complimentary subscription to the Artspace newsletter Artspace Now, special mailings for exhibitions and programs, discounts on classes and workshops, invitations to Members Only events, 10% discount on gift shop purchases and exhibition and hallway art purchases, invitation to the Members Annual Meeting, and support for Artspace's mission as a nonprofit arts center.

Applicants must submit up to 13 artwork samples (up to 10 digital images and up to 3 video works; if including details, submit at least 8 works of art and no more than two details), a resume, an artist statement, an artist biography, and a $30 application fee. The selection process is two-stage: Stage One involves Standards Committee members selecting finalists through www.callforentry.org. Stage Two requires finalists to bring 8 original works of art to Artspace for review by three regional jurors (artists, museum curators, university art professors, gallery owners, or other arts professionals). Jurors evaluate professionalism and quality of work, including competence and technical excellence, visual impact and originality, a distinct body of work with consistent exploration, and evidence of professional work as an artist.
