Artspace Artist Association Professional Membership Fall 2013

Artspace Artist Association membership is open to artists nationally. The application fee is $30. Applicants must submit up to 13 artwork samples (up to 10 digital images and up to 3 video works; if including details, submit at least 8 works of art and no more than two details), a resume, artist statement, and artist biography.

The selection process is two-stage. Stage One: Standards Committee members select finalists through www.callforentry.org. Stage Two: Finalists will be instructed to bring 6-8 original works of art created within the past two years to Artspace for review. Work must be delivered September 25, 26, or 27. The jury will consist of three regional jurors unaffiliated with Artspace (artists, museum curators, university art professors, gallery owners, or other arts professionals). Jurors evaluate professionalism and quality of work, including competence (mastery of medium and draftsmanship, technical excellence), visual impact (excitement, originality), body of work (distinct body with consistent level of exploration, not mass-produced), and evidence of professional work as an artist.

Artspace Artist Association membership benefits include participation in hall exhibitions, opportunities for solo exhibits in the Artspace Lobby, opportunities for solo or two-person shows in the Upfront Gallery, selection for AAA-only group exhibitions in Gallery One (one annual juried exhibition and one biennial three-person exhibition), and sales opportunities through exhibitions and the Artspace gift shop (30% commission taken). Members may participate in leadership through committees, officer positions, or the Board of Directors of Artspace, Inc. AAA members may rent studio space in the Artspace building as space becomes available with no commission charged on studio sales. Annual membership dues are $80, which include individual membership to Artspace, Inc., complimentary newsletter subscription, special mailings, discounts on classes and workshops, invitations to Members Only events, 10% discount on gift shop and exhibition purchases, and invitation to the Members Annual Meeting.
