About This Call
The Arts & Science Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg is seeking artists of all disciplines to participate in the Spring 2015 Community Supported Art (CSA) program. Modeled after Community Supported Agriculture, the CSA program supports artists in the creation and promotion of new work while establishing relationships with local collectors and patrons.
Nine selected Charlotte regional artists will each receive a $2,000 commission to create 50 works of art. Work from the nine artists will be sold in the form of 50 "shares" to art collectors and patrons, with each share consisting of one piece from each artist. Shares will be delivered in three monthly allocations at exclusive events in Spring 2015, providing opportunities for artists and patrons to connect.
Eligibility is open to individual 2D/3D visual and/or craft artists working primarily in the Charlotte Region (Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Rutherford, Union, or York SC counties). Artist collectives are eligible if each of the 50 works is a collaborative effort of all artists involved. Pieces must adhere to maximum dimensions of 12" x 12" x 12". Artists must be able to deliver artwork to the Arts & Science Council offices or similar location in central Charlotte, have a fully developed page in the Artist Directory on CharlotteCultureGuide.com, and attend at least 2 of the 3 scheduled pickup events.
Submissions must include: an artist statement outlining your artistic journey; 3-8 images of recent work; and a CSA artwork proposal (maximum 2 pages) detailing the work to be produced, with descriptions and proposed packaging. All works must be individually wrapped/packaged by the artist for delivery. Proposals will be reviewed by a jury panel of artists, curators, collectors, and critics. Applicants will be notified of decisions by January 4th, 2015.
