About This Call

The Neighborhoods in Creative pARTnership initiative will match selected neighborhoods with artists to create artwork that matches the spirit and identity of their neighborhood. Artists will work together with an assigned neighborhood to develop both the concept and design for the artwork. The developed artwork must be installed on exterior City-owned property or right-of-way either permanently or long-term temporarily (3 months or longer). The artworks may be freestanding visual art or an element of integrated design. The artist will be responsible for coordinating neighborhood engagement, developing and presenting designs, and overseeing/coordinating any needed construction drawings, engineering, permits, fabrication and installation required. Both ASC public art staff and a project manager with the City of Charlotte will assist the artist in these efforts.

Up to 5 neighborhood projects will be funded with commission amounts up to $23,600 per project. The budget covers the complete development, oversight and coordination of project design, fabrication, and installation, including engineering, permitting, inspections, travel, community engagement, public meeting presentations, shipping, administration, taxes and insurance.

This call is open to all local professional artists working in all visual art mediums. Local is defined as artists residing for two or more years in Mecklenburg County, Cabarrus County, Cleveland County, Iredell County, Gaston County, Rowan County, Rutherford County, Union County and York County, SC. ASC staff, City staff, Public Art Commission members or their immediate families are not eligible to apply. Applicants may apply as a single artist or team, but all must meet eligibility requirements. An Artist Selection Panel will review applications and recommend artists to be paired with each neighborhood based on artistic excellence, experience working with stakeholders, appropriateness of material/medium for the project, and conceptual match between neighborhood character/goals and the artist's personal exploration. Applicants must submit 8 images with their application.
