About This Call
The Arts & Science Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg is seeking individual 2D/3D visual and/or craft artists to participate in the Fall 2014 Community Supported Art (CSA) program. Nine selected Charlotte regional artists will each receive a $2,000 commission to create 50 works of art. Work from the nine selected artists will be sold in the form of 50 "shares" to art collectors and patrons, with each share consisting of one piece from each of the nine artists. Shares will be delivered in three monthly allocations through exclusive events in Fall 2014 that provide opportunities for artists and patrons to connect.
Eligibility is open to individual artists and collectives working primarily in the Charlotte Region including Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Rutherford, Union, or York (SC) counties. Pieces should adhere to maximum dimensions of 12" x 12" x 12". Artists must be able to deliver artwork to the Arts & Science Council offices or similar location in central Charlotte, have a fully developed page in the Artist Directory on CharlotteCultureGuide.com, and attend at least 2 of the 3 scheduled pickup events.
Submissions must include: an artist statement outlining your artistic journey; 3-8 images of recent work; and a CSA artwork proposal (maximum 2 pages) detailing the work to be produced, including description, reference to work samples, and description of proposed packaging. All works must be individually wrapped/packaged by the artist for delivery. Proposals will be reviewed in June 2014 by a jury panel. Applicants will be notified of decisions by June 30, 2014, with selected artists formally contracted and assigned to one of three Fall 2014 pickup dates in early July 2014.
