Arts in the Open 2022: Public Outdoor Sculpture Competition

A public outdoor sculpture competition sponsored by the City of Sandy Springs in partnership with Art Sandy Springs. Nine sculptures will be selected for prominent display around the four-acre City Green at City Springs, the City's town center. One or more sculptures from the competition will be purchased by the City for permanent installation in public locations throughout Sandy Springs.

Eligibility is open to local, regional, and national artists. Each selected artist will receive a $1,500 honorarium, which will be applied toward the purchase price if the sculpture is purchased by the City. Artists may submit up to three individual sculptures for consideration. All submissions must be made electronically and should include a full description of the artwork with a minimum of three photo images (front, side, and back views), up to two videos, an artist's statement, and artist bio. There is no entry fee. All entries must be existing works completed prior to submission, suitable for outdoor public display, of high artistic quality, safe for an active pedestrian environment, and appropriate for viewers of all ages. Artwork must require only minimal maintenance and be able to withstand weather, vandalism, and pedestrian contact. All sculptures will be fabricated and finished with non-hazardous materials and must be undamaged and unblemished.

Sculpture installation is scheduled for August 15–19, 2022, with a public unveiling event to be held in 2022. All sculptures will be on display in the City Green and promoted for sale to the public. If a sculpture is purchased by an entity other than the City, Art Sandy Springs will receive a 20% commission. Artists whose work is selected acknowledge that the City of Sandy Springs, Visit Sandy Springs, Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, and Art Sandy Springs may use photographs and videos of the artwork to promote the City's public arts program and encourage visitations to Sandy Springs.
