About This Call
HCA announces its twenty-first annual Arts in Bloom exhibition, a competitive juried show open to all artists. The exhibition runs May 5-28, 2026, and will be juried by Marcia R. Wise, who will select artwork for exhibition and choose six outstanding works for awards. The six winning artists will receive cash prizes totaling over $1,000. The Hopkinton Garden Club will choose several pieces to inspire floral arrangements that will be displayed in the gallery alongside the artwork.
The theme for 2026 is "For the Birds," referring to things perceived as worthless or frivolous—such as bills, laundry, politics, addiction to devices, pop culture, cold weather, high prices, scam calls, namedropping, and boasting. Artists are encouraged to incorporate humor or sarcasm into their creative choices. While artworks depicting flowers are welcome, other subjects are encouraged to make the exhibition more interesting for floral designers.
Artists may submit up to three artworks not previously shown at HCA. All 2D media, including photos, fiber, and digital art, are accepted. Work must be wired for hanging with a maximum height and width of 40 inches for framed pieces. 3D work may be entered if free-standing, wall-hung, and not protruding more than 10 inches. No sawtooth hangers, sandwich frames, giclee prints, copies, derivatives, or electronic reproductions are accepted. The submission fee is $35 for members and $45 for non-members for up to three submissions. Artists of all ages are welcome. Art drop-off is Friday, May 1 (3-6pm) and Saturday, May 2 (10am-1pm). The opening reception is May 8, 6-8pm. Art pick-up is Friday, May 29 (3-6pm) and Saturday, May 30 (10am-1pm). Non-local artists must ship work by May 2 and are responsible for shipping costs and insurance; they must provide pre-paid return shipping labels. The HCA carries insurance covering all artwork during the exhibition period. Artists receive 70% commission on sales; the HCA receives 30%.
