About This Call
Arts Downtown is a national juried exhibition in historic downtown Frankfort, KY, curated by Josephine Sculpture Park and the Franklin County Arts Council. The exhibition seeks contemporary sculpture proposals for outdoor exhibit for two years. Proposals can be new or existing work created within the past 3 years. Artists working in a variety of materials are encouraged to apply, including stone, metal, wood, concrete, found objects, natural materials, plastics, fiberglass, light, and sound. Sculptures should be physically and thematically suitable for exhibition in public spaces throughout the downtown business district of Frankfort, KY.
Up to five works will be selected for exhibition. Exhibiting artists will receive stipends of $2,000, and a purchase prize of $10,000 may be awarded. Works may be for sale during the length of exhibition; artists agree to a 30% donation to JSP from any sale (excluding the purchase prize). Works will be installed in October, with dates to be determined. JSP will provide professional installation of sculptures with crane service available as needed.
Works must be suitable for a hands-on outdoor exhibition in a public space, with a minimum of 4 feet in at least one direction and no taller than 15 feet. Artists may submit up to 3 works for consideration, with a separate application for each artwork. Submit 2-4 images of each work showing all sides, the weight if more than 1 ton, and installation requirements. If your work has sound or light components and/or is kinetic, include a short video (no more than 3 minutes 30 seconds preferred). Include an artist statement (1,000 characters max.) and resume (5 pages max.) as typed documents. The deadline to apply is July 15, 2019.
