The Arts Council of Fairfax County is accepting qualifications from artists or artist teams for a public art engagement opportunity in the County's Tysons area. The selected artist/team will design, fabricate, and install a temporary, portable work of art that will engage residents, visitors, and area employees in discussion of public art and the role of the arts in Tysons. The artwork must take into consideration the transitional nature of the Tysons area including current, future, and planned conditions. This project is funded in part by an Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for creative placemaking. The artist fee is $40,000.

The selected artist will develop a temporary, portable public art engagement project that can be installed or "pop up" in four sites located along corridors adjacent to new metro stations. The artwork should be adaptable to both outdoor and indoor locations and serve as a catalyst for public engagement. The artist will develop the art/engagement concept, final design, and fabricate the work in coordination with planned site selections. The artist/team must develop a community engagement plan that attracts community interaction and captures responses. The interactive installation must be designed to engage participant interaction and data collection with limited staffing and/or coordination. The project will be installed or "pop up" near four metro stations (McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, and Spring Hill) either sequentially or simultaneously according to the artist/team concept.

Eligibility: Professional artists and design professionals are invited to apply as individuals or teams. Public art experience is required. Candidates must have collaborative, project team experience working with other artists and design professionals on large scale projects. Experience with public engagement including technology applications is preferred. Work sample requirements: 4-6 images, 0-1 audio file, 0-1 video file (6 total samples required).
