About This Call
Arts at the Port is the annual juried fine art exhibition and crown jewel of the Anacortes Arts Festival (August 4-6, 2017). The exhibition showcases regional fine art to an estimated audience of 90,000 and displays 3-5 pieces from selected artists working in both 2D and 3D. The exhibition is housed in the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed Event Center, a rustic waterfront setting at the north end of the Festival. Arts at the Port also includes the Allen Family Invitational Gallery and Emerging Artist Exhibition.
The exhibition theme is "Resonance." Juror Pablo Schugurensky brings over 30 years of public and private art management experience, including roles as Director of Collections for Vulcan, Inc., Director of the Microsoft Art Collection, and lead for the Washington State Arts Commission Art in Public Places program. He currently serves as President of the Board of Artist Trust.
Artists are eligible for up to $12,500 in awards: $3,000 Best of Show, $2,000 Excellence Award (2 @ $1,000 each), $2,000 Festival Awards (2 @ $1,000 each), $4,000 "Anacortes Collects" Festival Public Art Purchase Award, $1,000 People's Choice Award, and $500 T Bailey Corporate Award. Entry fee is $35. Artists must submit 3-6 images of work. Both 2D and 3D work are encouraged, including drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, digitally generated art, video, sculpture, fine crafts (fiber, ceramics, metals, glass, wood, basketry, jewelry), and installation. Installation and video artists must submit a separate written or drawn proposal with 5 images of past work.
No reproduced work (except photography or digitally created) will be accepted. No work displayed or for sale elsewhere in the Festival will be accepted. No work previously entered in the Anacortes Arts Festival will be accepted. All accepted and hung work must be for sale. The Festival handles sales and retains a 50% commission (40% for bronze sculpture). Artwork must be available from July 23 through August 6, 2017. Mailed work must arrive before July 20 and include a return label or credit card information with a $20 handling fee. The Festival will insure accepted work up to $2,500 per piece; additional insurance must be covered by the artist. Notification of acceptance is by May 2, 2017. The Juried Show Opening is Saturday, July 29 at 6 pm; the exhibition is open July 31-August 3 from 10 am to 5 pm and during Festival weekend hours (August 4-6). For questions, contact Rita James at [email protected] or 360-293-6211.
