Arts at the Airport, Nashville International Airport - Public Artwork RFQ

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and Arts at the Airport invite individual artists or teams of artists to submit qualifications to design, fabricate, and install a significant public artwork at Nashville International Airport's Consolidated Rental Agency Complex. The artwork will be integrated into 29 ft. tall by 19 ft. 9.5 in. wide concrete panels surrounding a helical ramp attached to the new Rental Car Facility. Artists may utilize a minimum of three panels and up to eight panels. The artwork may not exceed 800 lbs per panel and will be attached by expansion bolts in locations that do not impact the pre-stressed strands in the concrete. Power is available in the vicinity of the project; if needed, artists must budget for approximately 525 ft of conduit and necessary cable.

The artwork should provide a sense of Nashville's growing cosmopolitan feel while retaining warmth and welcome. It should be dynamic, dramatic, and engaging, reminding visitors of their location while creating a sense of wonder, imagination, and creativity. The range of space available provides design flexibility and encourages the use of any media appropriate for the site. Lighting must be included within the artist's budget and specifications must be included in the design proposal.

The project budget range is $200,000 to $400,000. Finalists will be selected to develop detailed proposals and will receive $2,500 (50% upon selection, 50% following delivery of proposal and on-site interview). On-site interviews are scheduled for the week of August 2, 2010, with travel expenses paid by the Airport. Final selection and contract award will occur August 16, 2010, with installation planned for Summer/Fall 2011. Professional artists legally qualified to work in the United States are eligible to apply. Current Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority employees, commissioners, Arts at the Airport Board members, and their immediate family members may not apply.
