About This Call

Artists on Farms is a regional partnership between Gallery One Visual Arts Center in rural Ellensburg, WA and local farmers, designed to create temporary artist residencies. This year's partner farm is Green Bow Farms, a small family-run farmstead in Kittitas Valley focused on multi-species rotational grazing and sustainable farming practices. Through an online call, Gallery One connects artists from around the country with this local farm to foster cultural and educational exchanges based on trust and non-monetary exchange, modeled after the WWOOF movement.

Selected artists will receive 2-4 weeks of studio space at Gallery One from June 15-August 2017 (ceramic residents may begin as early as June 1), housing at Green Bow Farm, and an exhibition in Gallery One's Eveleth Green Gallery during September. Up to three artists, artist teams, or creative entrepreneurs will be selected. Artists are expected to give back to the community through activities such as broadcasted conversations, workshops, or collaborations on community events; engage with the local community and cultural environment of Central Washington; and be self-sufficient while helping out when needed. Materials used during residency must be conducive to a public working environment near children's studios, with no loud tools or toxic materials permitted.

The purposes of Artists on Farms are to share the benefits of the arts with the rural community, increase awareness of local farming through direct dialogue between artists and farmers, and demonstrate the value of both to the greater community. Entry fee is $20.00. Applicants may submit up to 10 images and/or 10 videos (minimum 1 total sample required). Eligibility is open to artists nationally.
