About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach will commission an artist for a work for hire mural to be installed on the back-exterior wall located at 60 & 50 NE 1st Ave. The approximate size of the wall is 130' long by 17' high. The wall is located in the Innovation and Creative Arts District adjacent to the historic core of the City, two blocks south of Artists Alley and one block south of the Bailey Contemporary Arts. The mural will be a significant gateway to downtown.
Possible approaches for this mural may include patterns, simple and flowing, abstract or non-objective, bright colors, festive, and welcoming. Limited realism is also acceptable if considerations are made to the multiple distractions, including windows, on the highly textured surface. The design should have a strong presence with a creative concept. Logos are not to be used. The materials, design and palette must stand up to local weather and be amenable to ongoing maintenance. The selected artist must apply a UV resistant sealant to the finished product. A site visit is not required but is recommended.
The selected artist will receive $15,000. The price will include all taxes, insurance and all other fees as well as any equipment the artist may need to complete the mural (i.e. cherry picker, paint, etc.). The artist is required to provide photos or video documentation of the entire process. The Public Art Program Manager in conjunction with the Public Art Committee will review and inspect the design in person during installation.
