About This Call
Downtown Art Center presents Artists of Hawaiʻi 2023, an all-media juried exhibition showcasing contemporary art by artists living in Hawaii. The exhibition runs November 3-25, 2023 at Downtown Art Center's Main Gallery (1041 Nuʻuanu Ave., Second Floor, Honolulu, HI 96817). The exhibition will be juried by Tyler Cann, Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at HoMA.
Eligibility: Professional and amateur artists of all ages living in the State of Hawaiʻi are eligible. Works in any medium are accepted, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, collage, sculpture, film and video, light works, sound, ceramic, glass, wood, fiber, and metal/jewelry. Works must not have been previously shown in a juried exhibition on Oʻahu. AI-generated works will not be accepted. Maximum submissions per artist: 4 artworks. Size and weight limits apply: up to 6.5 feet in each of two dimensions, not more than 3 feet in the third dimension; works that break down may be up to 8 feet in height; unframed flat works may be up to 8 feet in height and 6.5 feet in width; general weight limit 200 lbs. Prints, drawings, and photographs must be framed in metal or wood frames with hanging hardware included.
Entry Fee: $25 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry. Submissions accepted August 14 - September 20, 2023. Jurying occurs in two rounds: first round from digital images (September 21 - October 2), second round in person (October 21-22). Results announced October 2. Artwork arrival deadline for neighbor island artists: October 14. Oahu artist drop-off: October 21, 10 AM - 2 PM. Installation: October 30 - November 2. Opening and First Friday: November 3. Reception and Juror's talk: November 4. Artwork pickup: November 26.
Prizes: Best in Show $10,000 (sponsored by Ward Village), 2nd Prize $5,000 (sponsored by Ward Village), Emerging Artist Award $2,000 (for artists working in their medium no more than 5 years and not previously in a group show with minimum 3 artists).
