About This Call
The Honolulu Academy of Arts' 59th Biennial Juried Exhibition showcases the quality and diversity of art in Hawaii. Exhibition dates: June 30 - September 25, 2011. Opening reception: June 29, 2011, 6:00–9:00 p.m.
Only artists residing in the state of Hawaii are eligible. Functional and nonfunctional works are eligible in any medium: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, collage, sculpture, film and video, light works, sound, ceramic, glass, fiber, jewelry, and other art forms. No work shown previously in a juried exhibition on Oahu is eligible. All works must be original and created independently between 2009-2011. Series submissions cannot exceed 3 pieces total. Size and weight restrictions apply: up to 7 feet in each of two dimensions, not more than 3 feet in the third dimension. Unframed flat works that can be folded or rolled may be up to 12 feet in height and 7 feet in width. General weight limit: 250 lbs. Works must be in finished condition with appropriate framing and hanging hardware included.
Submission is online through CaFÉ only. You may submit up to 3 artworks for judging. Entry fee is $25 (includes one digital image submission); each additional digital image is $5. Submit a minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 digital images. Include the date of the work in the title field. Include an artist statement (limit 1000 characters) and a brief CV. Application deadline: Friday, April 1, 2011 at 12:00 noon. All entry fees must be received by Monday, April 4, 2011 at 4:00 PM. Jury results will be sent by email no later than Friday, May 20, 2011. Selected artists must drop off artworks on Saturday, June 11, 2011, 9:00 am–12:00 pm at the Academy's street-level loading dock on Victoria Street. Shipped entries from neighboring islands must be received by Friday, June 10, 2011.
Special awards include: The John Young Award ($3000), The Melusine Award for Painting ($3000), The Roselle Davenport Award for Artistic Excellence ($2500), and The Jim Winters Award for 3-D Design ($1000). Artworks in the exhibition will be considered for special purchase by the Academy for its collection and by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Pick up dates for selected works: Monday, September 26 - Friday, September 30, 2011. Storage charges of $20 per day apply for works not picked up on time.
