Artists of Hawaii 2007

The Honolulu Academy of Arts 57th Annual Juried Exhibition showcases the quality and diversity of Hawaii's artists. Exhibition dates: June 7–July 29, 2007. Opening reception: June 6, 2007, 6:30–9:30 p.m. Only artists residing in the state of Hawaii are eligible.

Functional and nonfunctional works are eligible in any medium or combination of media: paintings, drawings, prints including photographs, collages, sculpture, constructions, assemblages, wall hangings, video, light images, ceramics, glass, plastic, furniture, fiber arts (including clothing), jewelry, and other art forms. No work shown previously in a juried exhibition on O'ahu is eligible. All works must be original and created independently within the past two years. Size and weight limits: up to 7 feet in each of two dimensions, not more than 3 feet in the third dimension. Works that can be broken down may be up to 12 feet in height but no more than 7 feet and 3 feet in the two remaining dimensions. Weavings and other two-dimensional works that can be folded or rolled: up to 12 feet in height and 7 feet in width. General weight limit: 250 lbs. Weight limit for works suspended from ceiling: 50 lbs per suspended unit. Entries must be in finished condition. Prints, drawings, and photographs must be framed in metal or wood frames.

Submit digital images of up to 3 works through CaFÉ. For each artwork, submit 1 image showing the whole work and include the date of the work in the title field. Entry fee: $10 per entry. Include an artist statement (limit 1000 characters). Application deadline: Monday, April 2, 2007 at 12:00 noon. All entry fees must be received by Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 4:00 PM. Results of the first round of jurying will be sent by e-mail no later than Friday May 4, 2007. Hand-delivered entries drop-off: Saturday, May 19, 2007, 9:00 am–12:00 pm at the Academy's street-level loading dock on Victoria Street. Shipped entries deadline: Friday May 18, 2007.

Accepted works will be considered for special purchase by the Academy and the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Awards include: The Baciu Visual Arts Award ($3000), The Honolulu Academy of Arts Director's Choice Award ($1500), The John Young Award ($1500), The Melusine Award for Painting ($1,000), The Roselle Davenport Award for Artistic Excellence ($1,000), The Jim Winters Award for 3-D Design ($1,000), and The Cynthia Eyre Award ($500).
