About This Call

The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) is offering two distinct one-year artist residency opportunities through the Artists At Work (AAW) initiative, a workforce resilience program designed to support healthy communities through artistic civic engagement. Each participating artist will receive a living wage salary of $36,205 (calculated using the MIT Living Wage Calculator for the region less medical expenses), plus healthcare benefits. Artists will be enrolled in THE OFFICE performing arts + film's payroll and national healthcare plan. Studio space at the Cedar Center for the Arts campus will be provided upon request.

The Civic Engagement Artist-in-Residence will be embedded with a non-arts related department/division within the City of Lancaster, working directly with department directors and division managers to identify strategic opportunities to utilize and implement creative practices such as placemaking/keeping and public art. The Community Engagement Artist-in-Residence will work with MOAH and the City of Lancaster's Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services Department (PARCS) to engage directly with neighborhoods identified as sites for public art, developing projects in accordance with the City of Lancaster's Art in Public Places policy.

Eligible artists must be residents of Los Angeles County in need of full-time employment, with a developed or emerging interest in social practice addressing issues such as antiracism, justice reform, sustainability, equitable development, health, economy, homelessness and housing, child welfare, or immigration. During the 12-month residency, artists will engage with their studio practice daily, work 15-20 hours per week in partnership with a local Social Impact Initiative or Community Partner, commit to a focused project, create new work for public exhibition or events, attend monthly professional development workshops and artist work shares, and maintain documentation of their work. Application requirements include a cover letter addressing specific questions about residency interest and social practice, resume, artist bio, portfolio, and links to work samples. Applicants must submit 1-10 images, and may optionally include up to 6 audio files and 6 video files.
