About This Call
The Artist/Instructor-in-Residence in Photography is a 16-week fellowship program for Fall 2015 (August 31 – December 18, 2015) intended to present participants as role models for the OCAC community, advance the careers of practicing artists, and strengthen public awareness of the significant role that making plays in contemporary art. The program expands OCAC's mission as a public resource center for the exchange and exploration of ideas relevant to contemporary craft and critical making.
The resident artist must have significant exhibition records and professional achievements, strong communication skills, sustained studio practice, and a desire to engage in collaborative experiences. Residents are expected to pursue a clearly articulated body of work or project, teach one 3-credit BFA course "Digital Imaging I" in the Photo Department, and integrate their practice into OCAC's academic programming and community activities. Beyond teaching, involvement may include guest lecturing, public talks, mentorship, open studios, and collaboration with faculty or students. Residents receive a studio space on campus, a $6,000 stipend for travel and living expenses, and may audit one Studio School continuing education class tuition-free. On-campus housing may be provided if needed.
Applicants must be visual artists working primarily with photographic materials and processes with 5+ years of active professional studio practice, an MFA in Photography/Digital Media or equivalent, 2+ years teaching experience in a degree program, comprehensive knowledge of photography history and contemporary theory, and expertise in both digital and analog photographic processes. Applicants should provide 10 images of personal work, 10 images of student work, CV, artist statement, teaching philosophy, proposal, and 3 letters of reference. Selection is based on portfolio quality, originality and scope of residency proposals, potential for working within a community of makers, and relevance of the proposal to OCAC's resources.
